Welcome to the Back Eddy Bistro

In 2008, Chef Ed Glennon and his wife Allyson fell in love with downtown Venice, choosing it as as the perfect spot to open their restaurant, The Back Eddy Bistro.
The Glennons grew up in the Shinnecock Inlet area of the Hamptons, where fishing and farming are major commercial industries. This atmosphere set the tone for the couple's lifelong love of fresh cuisine. After graduating from the Culinary Institute of America (CIA), Ed worked for years at top restaurants in the Hamptons and in New York City. Word got around about his talents in the kitchen, so Ed was selected as a private chef by the publisher and financier Arthur Carter. Ed and Allyson later worked as private chefs for Rupert Murdoch, Jimmy Buffett, Roy Scheider, and Neil Young.

After fifteen years as chefs to the stars, the Glennons longed to channel their passion for food and entertaining into their own restaurant. The Back Eddy is their charming neighborhood bistro, where they serve fresh and flavorful dishes in a warm atmosphere brimming with their own creative personalities. The Back Eddy is the embodiment of Chef Ed's culinary philosophy, which is  "Start with fresh—end with delicious." Ally heads up the front of the house and crafts the bistro's homemade desserts.

Find the Back Eddy at the far southwest end of the Miami Avenue shopping district, tucked into one of Venice’s prettiest 1920s buildings. The comfortable and romantic dining room features a gallery with works by local artists. There’s back room seating as well, and, for al fresco dining, a rear garden patio and umbrella tables along Miami Avenue. In the bar and along the back corridor you'll see Ed's collection of 1960s psychedelic concert posters and Grateful Dead memorabilia.

The Back Eddy is a lively gathering place for friendly and creative folks who live in the area as well as visitors from all over the world. Visit soon and see why it's consistently rated one of the area's favorites.
